Whitby: Vegetable Gardening - Eating and Growing Green
405 Dundas Street West, Whitby, ON (Whitby Central Library) (map) Whether you are concerned about the environment and organic food, or you just like to garden, this timely session on growing vegetables in your own backyard is sure to be informative. Author of From Seed to Table: A Practical Guide to Eating and Growing Green, Janette Haase, will conduct a workshop hosted by the Whitby Central Library. This session will cover garden design, planting and harvesting. The author will also stress eating seasonally and provide an understanding of environmental issues. Haase encourages readers to “try planting a garden and eating food that you have grown yourself—food that is unpackaged and unprocessed and that has travelled only a few metres from producer to consumer.” The book offers a month-by-month guide to growing a significant amount of food in a small home garden and shows how to enjoy a healthier, more environmentally responsible diet.
