The Climate Crisis: What people are doing in your community
135 Green Lane, Thornhill, ON (St. Rene Goupil - St. Luke Catholic Elementary School) (map) The Town of Markham initiated in Feb 2008 a Municipal Class B Environmental Assessment study to assess the existing stormwater system conditions and the alternative solutions to improve the stormwater system performance in West Thornhill to an acceptable level of protection. The study will identify the problems and opportunities; assess the alternative solutions to address the potential environmental effects, and recommend the preferred alternative. PIC #1 will provide background information on the study and the various alternative solutions that have been considered. Oakville: Public Forum: the future of transportation in the GTHA
Oakville Town Hall, Oakville ON (map) The Oakville-Mississauga KAIROS committee, the Oakville Community Centre for Peace, Ecology and Human Rights (OCCPEHR), GreenTrans and the Sierra Club of Peel Region are co-sponsoring an evening focused on transportation on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 7:15 p.m. We have secured Vince Mauceri, General Manager of Transportation, Operations and Technology at Metrolinx to speak about plans for the future of transportation in the GTHA. The event will be held at the Oakville Town Hall. After Mr. Mauceri’s address, a panel of three local citizens will offer a response. The panellists include Blake Poland, an Oakvillegreen board member; Peter Orphanos from the Sierra Club of Peel Region; and Mervyn Russell from the Oakville-Mississauga KAIROS Committee and OCCPEHR. Each panel member will have up to 5 minutes to speak and then there will be time for comments and questions from the floor.
