Carbon Emissions Business Forum: Compliance, Innovation, and Leadership

Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Toronto (map)

Understand the regulatory challenges, compliance options, and business opportunities in carbon emissions management. In March 2008 the federal government released an enhanced version of its “Turning the Corner” regulatory framework for industrial greenhouse gas emissions. It includes tough new measures to meet environmental commitments and adds details to the framework first announced in early 2007. It also identifies carbon capture and storage as a key tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions across all industries. The proposed greenhouse gas regulations, developed through consultation with 17 key industrial sectors, are to be published later this year, finalized in 2009, and instituted January 1, 2010. The regulations will be accompanied by the setting of a market price for carbon and the development of a carbon emission trading and offset system. Companies will need to choose between in-house reductions, contributions to a capped time-limited technology fund, domestic carbon emissions trading and offsets, or carbon capture and sequestration to meet their emissions reduction targets. Learn from the innovators how they’re adapting to the new realities.
