Whitby Stormwater Public Information Meeting

The Town of Whitby is considering making changes to the stormwater systems near Garden street, south of Dundas.

According to the notice (PDF),

Urban development has altered the natural way in which stormwater run-off finds its way back to creeks, rivers and Lake Ontario. During wet weather events, stormwater (in the form of rain or snow) travels along our streets collecting dirt, oil, grease and other pollutants before entering our sewer systems. This has lead to degraded water quality conditions and erosion in our streams. Therefore, this Environmental Assessment will focus on opportunities to provide enhancement of water quality and erosion control for two existing stormwater outfalls.

As a result, the city is conducting a study to see what enhancements can be made to the system. Anyone interested in this issue can attend the following meeting to find out more:

Wednesday, December 10, 2008
