Breaking ground on Friday will be Toronto's newest sustainable office building - and the developers are aiming for LEED® Gold Certification for the tower.
The building, to be located at 18 York street, will be 26 storeys high and will total about 650,000 square feet. The tower will be located at the north-west corner of York Street and Bremner Boulevard (near the Air Canada Centre).
Some of the planned sustainable features of the building are:
- Enwave Deep Lake Cooling and thermal water storage (reduces hydro use estimated to be 5.9 million KWh of electricity per year)
- High efficiency heating
- Efficient underfloor HVAC systems
- Dimmable lighting technology (which may reduce energy consumption by 35%)
- A green roof to increase air quality
- Storm water run-off reuse within the building
The building will house companies such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, which is moving it's national headquarters to Toronto and has signed a lease for 280,000 square feet.
Construction of 18 York Street is expected to be complete in the fall of 2011.
